The event, ‘Supporting Local Sprouts,’ will take place at the Belfast Curling Club on April 27, 2013 from 6:00 – 9:00pm. It will feature silent and live auctions, dinner donated by some of Belfast’s finest farms, restaurants and caterers, cocktails, and live music by The Leaky Boot Jug Band.

Local community members are invited to attend this exciting event! Tickets are available now for $20 per person or $35 per couple. Ticket price includes dinner, bid number, and entertainment. This year, for the first time, Cornerspring will also hold an online auction hosted by Bidding for Good! Online bidding opens on April 11, 2013 at http://www.biddingforgood.com/cornerspring.

All money raised by the ‘Supporting Local Sprouts’ Auction is dedicated to supporting Cornerspring’s Tuition Assistance Program. In recognition of the “International Day of Peace” Cornerspring Montessori School participated in its fifth annual peace celebration on Monday, September 24th. The children began with a circle gathering outside for a moment of silence. The celebration continued with a song about peace and a world peace meditation led by teacher Lily Goodale. Marc Archambault from White Doves of Maine released one of his beautiful doves in honor of this day. The school ended their celebration with a peace parade through the athenahealth complex. Children marched with handmade doves and pinwheels signifying peace followed in a procession lead by an enormous handmade cloth dove. Each year Cornerspring Montessori School chooses an organization to sponsor as part of its curriculum in teaching students about community giving and service. This type of work weaves into all types of our academic curriculum such as math, language arts, etc. and helps our students learn such skills as committee formation, working in a collaborative fashion and correspondence. This year the school decided to sponsor the Belfast Soup Kitchen as our annual charity after hearing the news last fall that it may close due to lack of funding. Students rallied to do a food drive and art night in the fall and invited the Director, Alex Allmayer-Beck to the school so they could present him with several boxes of food items, along with a check from the proceeds of the art night admission.
