About Us

In 2001, Cornerspring Montessori began operation at the residence of Founder Paula Johnson on Congress Street in Belfast, Maine. At that time the school program, housed in a quaint historical home, had just 12 students. Seven years later Cornerspring expanded its programs and the school community grew to over 80 students with an addition of a new location at 18 Hatley Road, in Belfast, Maine. In 2014, Cornerspring began the “Journey Home” a campaign to support the purchase of the land and construction of our new school. In July 2017, we moved the school to our new permanent home at 256 Congress Street in Belfast, Maine. Our new school allows us to expand our programs to once again include a toddler program.

Our dedicated and creative staff provide a stimulating environment in which children grow successfully and happily. Our classrooms are designed to foster independence and nurture children in their self-discovery of the world around them. We assist the child in acquiring the social skills and self confidence needed to fulfill their potential. This is accomplished by building on interests, nurturing enthusiasm and making activities available to fit individual needs.

Cornerspring is a non-profit Montessori school based on the teachings and philosophies of Dr. Maria Montessori. We welcome students from the age of two through the age of twelve. For more information feel free to contact us.
