Position Description:

The Cornerspring Montessori School in Belfast, Maine is seeking a Head of School (HOS) to lead the school in fulfilling its mission to provide an individualized learning environment in which the partnership of child, parent, and teacher nurtures lifelong learning skills and a deep sense of compassion and social responsibility.  In this 12-month position, the Head of School is responsible for all aspects of school operations and promotion of its programs throughout the broader community.   Specific duties include oversight of enrollment, year round education programs, budget and financial management, personnel management, fundraising, marketing, public relations, and property management.  The HOS typically oversees a staff of 4 lead teachers, 5 assistant teachers, an administrative assistant, and a financial manager/program development manager.  These responsibilities should be administered in a manner that is consistent with Montessori philosophy and within the guidelines administered by the Board of Directors

With a current enrollment of 70 students, the school will be moving to a brand-new, energy-efficient building during the summer of 2015.  This facility presents a unique opportunity for the Head of School to further connect our expanding pre-kindergarten through 6th grade programming with place and community.


Administrative and classroom experience preferred; proven success in supervising and mentoring faculty, facilitating successful implementation of classroom and extracurricular programs; ability to communicate, collaborate effectively and inspire confidence in staff, parents, children and Board. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong work ethic are desired, as is experience with community outreach, events, fundraising, and expansion of programs and classrooms.


Applicants must be committed to implementing the Montessori educational model. A certification by an accredited Montessori Teacher Training Program, a degree in early childhood education, and a minimum of 5 years experience in child development are also preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

Cornerspring Montessori School offers a salary commensurate with experience and the compensation package includes dental, life, short and long term disability insurance along with retirement match up to 3% and continuing education hours.

The Cornerpsring Montessori School was established in 2001 to provide a curriculum based on the teachings and philosophies of Dr. Maria Montessori for students ranging in age from 18 mos. to 12 years old.  It is located in the scenic, coastal town of Belfast, Maine.    Belfast is the economic hub and county seat of Waldo County.
